Interpol joins search for Adrian Sutil’s missing Koenigsegg One:1

The disappearance of the Koenigsegg One:1 has moved well beyond an ordinary theft. The car belonging to former Formula 1 driver Adrian Sutil has vanished, and Interpol is now involved in the search.

This is a hypercar that cannot be mistaken for anything else. Only 7 examples were built, each with its own unique configuration. The stolen car has several distinctive features, including a carbon-fibre body and China Pink accents. Under the bonnet is 1,360 hp, while the car weighs 1,360 kg. That power-to-weight ratio is what earned the model its “megacar” status. SPEEDME puts the value of such a car at around $22 million, although in practice the price could be even higher.

The circumstances are unusual. German outlet Auto Motor und Sport reports that several cars were removed from a garage in Monaco after pressure was allegedly placed on the owner’s family. It was not only the Koenigsegg: other rare cars were involved as well, including a Regera and a classic Mercedes once owned by Elvis Presley. Everything happened quickly and without the usual pattern of a car theft.

The main problem is what can be done with a car like this next. Selling it is almost impossible: it is too recognisable and too rare. Cars like this do not appear on the open market. That leaves only private deals behind closed doors or an attempt to hide it for years. The trail points toward Eastern Europe, but there is no confirmed information yet.

Even though the incident sounds almost unreal, that is exactly why the story is continuing to gain momentum.
