Avatr stretches its bestseller: meet the longer 07L
Avatr has shown a camouflaged prototype of a more spacious version of the 07. The new model is expected to carry the 07L name and Huawei's 896-channel LiDAR.
Avatr is working on another crossover, and this isn't just a refresh for the sake of expanding the lineup. The brand has shown a camouflaged prototype in China of a model that may reach the market under the Avatr 07L name. It's set to become an extension of the Avatr 07 family — roomier and more advanced.
The company itself is being cautious for now: it's calling the new car an evolution of the 07 series. But Chinese sources are already linking the vehicle to the 07L badge. The L here almost certainly points to an extended wheelbase. For buyers, that means more cabin room, particularly in the second row — an argument that resonates strongly in China's family SUV segment.
In the published images, Avatr highlights Huawei Qiankun's involvement in the development. That's a key detail: the new SUV is expected to get Huawei's 896-channel LiDAR, which should boost its advanced driver-assistance capabilities. For Avatr, technology like this is one of the main ways to stand out from run-of-the-mill electric crossovers.
The Avatr range currently includes the 06, 06T, 07, 11 and 12, plus the special 011 and 012. The Avatr 07 itself launched in September 2024 and became the brand's first model offered as both a pure-electric BEV and an EREV with an electric drivetrain backed by a petrol range extender.
The current 2026 model-year Avatr 07 comes in six trims, priced from 219,900 to 289,900 yuan. BEV versions start at 229,900 yuan, while EREV variants begin at 219,900. The new 07L is expected to be priced above the standard 07.
The next step is the model's appearance in China's MIIT regulatory filing catalogue. That could happen in the coming days, at which point dimensions, powertrains and exact positioning will become clearer. For now, the main takeaway is this: Avatr wants to claim a more family-oriented and premium slice of the SUV segment, where buyers care not just about range but also about space, driver-assistance systems and Huawei's level of tech.
