China lands in Spain: GAC arrives with EVs assembled in Austria
GAC launches in Spain through Grupo Invicta with two electric models assembled at Magna Steyr in Graz. Dealer network to grow from 29 to 58 by 2027.
Chinese carmaker GAC is officially opening for business in Spain. The brand enters the market through Grupo Invicta and immediately bets on pure electric cars: the first models will be the AION UT and AION V.
The launch network covers 29 sales points on mainland Spain. By the end of 2026, GAC wants to grow that figure to 45 dealers, and to 58 in 2027, by then including the Canary and Balearic islands. Service is a particular focus: parts will flow through a logistics hub in Rotterdam and Invicta’s warehouses in Spain, with a typical resolution time for parts of 24–72 hours.
Both models were developed for Europe and are assembled at the Magna Steyr plant in Graz. The AION UT is a B-segment electric hatchback measuring 4.27 metres. It offers a 440-litre boot, a 150 kW (204 hp) motor, a 60 kWh LFP battery and a WLTP range of up to 430 km. It does 0–100 km/h in 7.3 seconds, with 10–80% DC charging taking 32 minutes at a peak of 87 kW.
The AION V is a larger SUV at 4.61 metres. It also gets front-wheel drive and a 204 hp motor, but a bigger battery — 75.26 kWh. WLTP range climbs to 510 km, 0–100 km/h takes 7.9 seconds, and fast charging at up to 180 kW covers 10–80% in 24 minutes. Its weak spot for the class is the boot — 427 litres, less than the compact UT offers.
For GAC, this is a cautious but meaningful move into Europe. If the pricing lands competitively, BYD and MG gain another rival in the mass-market EV segments.
