The everyday Dacia gets a polish: Sandero Stepway Extreme is the new top trim Spaniards have been waiting for
Dacia brings the Extreme trim back to the Sandero Stepway in Spain, replacing Journey. ECO-G 120 bi-fuel, ECO label, manual or EDC automatic — without crossover-class pricing.
Dacia has expanded the updated Sandero Stepway lineup in Spain and brought back the Extreme version, which now replaces the previous Journey trim. For the buyer the idea is simple: this is the most generously equipped Sandero Stepway with the ECO-G 120 engine and the ECO label, yet without crossing into proper crossover pricing.
The Sandero Stepway Extreme with a 6-speed manual starts at €18,220 — roughly $21,000. The EDC automatic version costs €19,820, about $22,900. For comparison, the entry-level Stepway in Spain starts at €15,820, so the premium for Extreme covers not only the decor but also a richer specification.
Under the hood sits the bi-fuel ECO-G 120 engine. It’s a 1.2-litre turbo unit that runs on petrol and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Output is 120 hp, and the real practical bonus is the Spanish ECO environmental label. In cities with low-emission zones, it can matter more than extra options: fewer access restrictions, easier daily use and lower fuel bills.
So why pick this hatchback? Extreme gives the Sandero Stepway a more upmarket look: roof rails, contrasting accents, special trim, upgraded infotainment and a level of equipment you’d normally expect from a class above. But the car itself stays true to its logic — a compact crossover-hatch with ground clearance, a no-nonsense cabin and a focus on cost of ownership.
For Dacia, this is an important pause before the first hybrid Sandero. Until the full HEV arrives, the ECO-G version bridges the gap between a conventional petrol engine and electrification. Buyers don’t get a trendy battery — they get a clear way to save on running costs.
The Sandero Stepway Extreme isn’t trying to be premium. Its strength lies elsewhere: it adds the look, the equipment and the ECO label without making you pay like for a full-size SUV.
