Tesla Model Y in Japan 2026: price and Tokyo EV subsidies
Eligible Tokyo residents can reduce the effective cost of a Tesla Model Y Premium RWD from ¥5,587,000 to ¥3,617,000 through national and metropolitan EV incentives.
The Tesla Model Y Premium RWD officially costs ¥5,587,000 in Japan. But a Tokyo resident who qualifies for both support programs can reduce the effective outlay to ¥3,617,000. The difference reaches ¥1,970,000, or about 35% of the original price.
This is not a promotional Tesla discount but the result of active incentive programs. The national CEV subsidy for the Model Y is ¥1,270,000. Since July 2026, Tokyo’s base payment for electric vehicles has been ¥200,000, while Tesla vehicles receive another ¥500,000 through a manufacturer-related bonus. Together, the standard package of support for a Tokyo resident reaches ¥1,970,000.
Importantly, the car’s official list price has not changed: Tesla still quotes ¥5,587,000 for the Premium RWD. So it would be wrong to describe this as a factory price cut — it is the buyer’s effective cost after incentives that falls. A similar mechanism has already made the Model 3 especially affordable in Tokyo, and the gap is now clearly visible on the more expensive crossover as well.
The Japanese Model Y Premium RWD is rear-wheel drive and has a claimed range of 547 km on the WLTC cycle. In the spring, Tesla also expanded its Japanese lineup with the six-seat Model Y L.
At the same time, ¥3,617,000 should not be treated as a universal price across Japan: local support varies by region and eligibility. Tokyo also offers additional bonuses, for example for the use of renewable electricity or solar panels, so the final outlay can differ for individual buyers.
