Volkswagen adds AirConsole gaming to 2027 US models
AirConsole is coming to select 2027 Volkswagen models in the US with 20 games, smartphone controllers and a $149-a-year In-Vehicle Premium subscription after the trial.
Twenty games, a smartphone instead of a gamepad and one key condition: the car must be parked. That is how Volkswagen is bringing AirConsole to the US market. The platform will be available in the 2027 Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, Tiguan, Golf GTI, Golf R and ID. Buzz. After the free trial, access to the In-Vehicle Premium package will cost $149 a year.
The launch lineup includes Tetris, PAC-MAN Championship Edition and UNO Car Party!. No separate controller is required: passengers scan a QR code on the center display and their smartphones become game controllers. On compatible trims, some games can also interact with the cabin ambient lighting. The feature works only while the vehicle is parked.
The free period depends on the model. Buyers of the Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, Tiguan, Golf GTI and Golf R get In-Vehicle Premium for three months, while ID. Buzz customers receive it for a year. After that, the $149 fee is not charged separately for Tetris or AirConsole: it covers the entire connected-services package, which can also include Wi-Fi, premium navigation, voice functions and other features depending on the model.
AirConsole itself is far from new for Volkswagen. Back in April 2025, the company said PAC-MAN and the platform were available in more than 300,000 vehicles in Europe, including the Golf, Tiguan, Passat and models from the ID. family. The 2026 development is therefore not a global debut for in-car gaming at Volkswagen, but the service's arrival in the US lineup and its move to the local subscription model.
In the United States, the launch coincides with a notable update to Volkswagen's 2027 model range: the Atlas moves to a new generation, while the ID. Buzz returns to the US lineup after skipping the 2026 model year.
