smart #2: battery, range and specifications
The electric smart #2 has been listed in China with a 35.8 kWh LFP battery and 410 km of CLTC range. European figures remain preliminary.
The smart #2 now has a figure that was missing from earlier registration documents: 410 km on a charge under the Chinese CLTC cycle. A catalogue published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on September 18 includes new data for the electric successor to the fortwo, while Chinese media cite a 35.8 kWh LFP battery.
This adds an important detail to the specifications already known. Earlier disclosures listed a 60 kW rear-mounted electric motor, a kerb weight of 1,130 kg and a body length of either 2,751 or 2,764 mm. The exact Chinese range figure is now part of the picture as well. Output is about 82 hp, and top speed is listed at 140 km/h.
The 410 km figure should not be converted directly into a European rating. CLTC differs significantly from WLTP, and smart currently gives the European #2 a preliminary target of around 300 km WLTP with a 35.7 kWh battery. The company says the car is still going through European homologation, so the final figures may change.
The difference between the Chinese 35.8 kWh figure and the preliminary European 35.7 kWh figure is just 0.1 kWh. No public explanation for the discrepancy has been given, so it is too early to conclude that the markets will use different batteries or a separate European version.
The #2 brings smart back to the classic fortwo format: two doors, two seats, rear-wheel drive and a body shorter than 2.8 metres. The previously revealed interior and ECA architecture show that compact dimensions are central to the project rather than simply a scaled-down version of the brand’s current crossovers.
The production smart #2 is scheduled to make its world premiere on October 12, 2026 at the Paris Motor Show. That is when the final European range, charging and trim details may be announced.
