¥480,000 is the premium MINI is charging in Japan for the new Sloane Street Edition over a regular Cooper C. The three-door model is priced at ¥4.5 million, while the five-door version costs ¥4.62 million. Sales have already begun, with the first customer deliveries scheduled for October.

The base prices put that surcharge into perspective. A standard Cooper C costs ¥4.02 million, and a Cooper 5-Door C starts at ¥4.14 million. In both cases, the difference is the same ¥480,000, which is almost 12% of the three-door model’s base price. The Sloane Street Edition is also slightly cheaper than the Paul Smith Edition, priced at ¥4.65 million and ¥4.77 million in equivalent C versions.

MINI has not announced any technical changes. The main differences are in styling and equipment: Favoured Trim, 17-inch grey U-Spoke wheels, Piano Black exterior details, a contrasting roof and bonnet stripes. Dark exterior paint is paired with beige Vescin seats, while the white car gets a black interior. The three-door is available in Nanuq White and Indigo Sunset Blue, while the five-door also adds Midnight Black II.

The practical side of the package is more substantial than the cosmetic changes. Standard equipment includes Driving Assistant Plus with adaptive cruise control, Stop&Go and lane keeping, as well as Parking Assistant Plus with a 360-degree view, front and rear panoramic views, Remote 3D View and a drive recorder.

MINI has used a similar approach before with the Cooper S Rooftop Edition, where the emphasis was also on the presentation of a special version. The Sloane Street Edition follows the same idea, but it is aimed specifically at the Japanese market and is based on the Cooper C.

The name refers to Sloane Street, one of London’s best-known luxury shopping areas. For buyers, however, the difference from a standard Cooper is easy to quantify: ¥480,000 for the visual package, more upscale trim and an expanded set of parking and driver-assistance systems.
