BMW Japan priced the M2 M xDrive at 10.83 million yen, only 500,000 yen above the rear-wheel-drive M2, while keeping 480 hp and cutting the 0–100 km/h time to 3.7 seconds.

In Japan, all-wheel drive adds 500,000 yen to the BMW M2. From October 1, the M2 M xDrive costs 10.83 million yen, while the rear-wheel-drive M2 with either the six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic is priced at 10.33 million yen. That means xDrive raises the Japanese price by only 4.8%.

There is no extra power for the money. The 3.0-liter inline-six still produces 480 hp and 600 Nm, but M xDrive puts the output down more effectively: BMW’s global press material lists 0–100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than the rear-wheel-drive version. The system remains rear-biased, and with DSC switched off the driver can select 2WD and disconnect drive to the front axle.

Japan gets the car only with the eight-speed automatic. Kerb weight is 1,790 kg, peak power arrives at 6,250 rpm and the full 600 Nm is available from 2,700 to 5,620 rpm. The quoted 9.8 km/l under the WLTC cycle equals roughly 10.2 l/100 km. BMW expects Japanese customer deliveries to begin in mid-October.

The M2 xDrive itself is not an October debut. BMW revealed the global model on June 3 and scheduled production in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, from August, naming the United States, Germany and China among its key markets. The same global release also confirmed M Ignite pre-chamber ignition for the S58 engine. The Japanese announcement is therefore the next market launch rather than a second world premiere.
