New Volkswagen ID. Tiguan replaces ID.4 and ID.5 with up to 598 km WLTP range
Volkswagen has unveiled the ID. Tiguan, successor to the ID.4 and ID.5, with up to 598 km WLTP range, 77 kWh battery options and 2,000 kg towing capacity.
The new Volkswagen ID. Tiguan gains a 32-liter front trunk, although the main cargo area shrinks from 543 to 534 liters. Together, the two compartments now hold 566 liters—23 liters more than the previous ID.4 figure. Volkswagen has changed not only the car’s practicality, but also its name, styling and interior layout.
The electric Volkswagen ID. Tiguan made its world premiere on October 9, 2026. The crossover will succeed two models at once—the ID.4 and coupe-style ID.5. Volkswagen had confirmed the plan to consolidate them into one line in September, and has now revealed the production model and its main specifications.
The exterior adopts Volkswagen’s Pure Positive design language, giving the EV more of the look of a conventional Volkswagen SUV. It gets cleaner body lines, new lighting and conventional exterior door handles instead of the earlier flush solutions. Petrol, diesel and hybrid versions of the regular Tiguan will remain on sale as a separate model.
Inside, Volkswagen has moved away from several choices that drew criticism on early ID models. Key climate functions are again controlled by physical buttons, the steering wheel uses conventional buttons, and the four power windows have a redesigned dedicated control panel. The center console also gains a rotary controller for volume and track selection.
The digital setup includes a 10-inch instrument display, a 15-inch central screen and an optional 12-inch display for the front passenger. The instrument cluster offers a retro mode inspired by the Golf IV. The central screen also gets a virtual collection of classic Volkswagens, including the Golf I, Golf II Country, Golf IV, first-generation Tiguan, Race Touareg and Beetle.
The powertrain range starts with a rear-wheel-drive version rated at 140 kW, or 190 PS, using a 58 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery. A stronger rear-drive model uses a 77 kWh NMC battery and produces 210 kW, or 286 PS. The dual-motor 4MOTION version with the same battery delivers 220 kW, or 299 PS.
According to Volkswagen Norway, maximum range reaches 598 km on the WLTP cycle. The 58 kWh version charges from 10 to 80% in about 26 minutes, while 77 kWh versions need around 29 minutes. Maximum braked towing capacity is up to 1,800 kg for the base version and up to 2,000 kg for models with the 77 kWh battery.
The ergonomic changes continue Volkswagen’s move back toward physical controls. In the United States, ID.4 production ended in April 2026 and remaining vehicles continue to be sold from inventory. Volkswagen is planning a future electric model in this class for North America, but timing and the exact specification of a US-market ID. Tiguan have not yet been officially announced.
UK pricing for the ID. Tiguan has not yet been announced. Before the premiere, Autocar expected the entry price to sit slightly above the roughly £37,000 asked for the outgoing ID.4. Eligibility for the UK Electric Car Grant is also not guaranteed, as the subsidy is available only to approved electric cars that meet the program’s price requirements.
Orders in Norway open on October 13, with first deliveries expected in the first quarter of 2027. Volkswagen also plans to open orders in Germany in mid-October. Official sales of the ID. Tiguan in Russia have not been announced.
