Renault Kangoo E-Tech: 52 kWh battery, 354 km WLTP range and 100 kW charging
Renault upgrades the electric Kangoo with a 52 kWh NMC battery, up to 354 km WLTP, 100 kW DC charging and new 100/115 kW motors.
In the same 30 minutes at a fast charger, the updated Renault Kangoo E-Tech can now recover up to 240 km of range instead of the previous 179 km. The gain is 61 km, or about 34%. Renault has also increased traction-battery capacity from 45 to 52 kWh and raised peak DC charging power from 80 to 100 kW. As a result, charging from 15 to 80% now takes 30 minutes instead of 40.
According to Renault, the maximum range of the electric Kangoo Van and passenger Kangoo reaches 354 km on the WLTP cycle, depending on version and body style. This figure is still subject to homologation. Battery capacity has increased by about 15.6%, and the pack uses a new-generation NMC chemistry related to the batteries in the Renault 4 and Renault 5 E-Tech electric.
The previous 90 kW, 120 hp and 245 Nm electric motor is replaced by two choices: 100 kW, 135 hp and 270 Nm, or 115 kW, 155 hp and 300 Nm. The update also adds four regenerative-braking levels controlled by steering-wheel paddles, battery preconditioning before charging and V2L power for external electrical equipment. An EV Route Planner can schedule charging stops during a journey.
The cabin has also been updated: the multimedia display grows from 8 to 10 inches, OpenR Link gets a revised and faster interface, and wireless smartphone charging now supports up to 25 W. The range continues to offer 4.49- and 4.91-metre body lengths, including passenger versions with seating for up to seven people.
The update applies to the current European Kangoo range and is unrelated to the recently introduced Kangoo Limitée limited edition for Japan. Renault has not yet announced prices for the upgraded Kangoo and Kangoo Van, saying they will be revealed in the coming weeks.
