Peugeot RCZ Vision previews a solid-state battery and 1000V charging
Peugeot RCZ Vision is a 500 hp concept with a 110 mm solid-state battery, up to 600 km of range and 10–80% charging in 10 minutes.
A 110 mm-thick solid-state battery, 500 hp and a 10–80% charge in ten minutes: Peugeot has presented an unusual continuation of the RCZ story. The RCZ Vision remains a concept and brand manifesto, but it showcases design and technologies Peugeot links to its future models.
The key feature is a 1000V electrical architecture and solid-state battery cells developed with Factorial Energy. The concept uses an architecture based on the STLA One platform. Peugeot quotes up to 600 km of range and a target combined WLTP energy consumption of 11.5 kWh/100 km. The company explicitly says that consumption figure still has to be confirmed.
The original RCZ is referenced by the sports-coupe format and its distinctive double-bubble roof. The new car is far more futuristic, with a low silhouette, pronounced fenders, a transparent upper body section and an active rear spoiler that deploys while driving. Inside, there is a Hypersquare control and Steer-by-Wire with no mechanical steering connection to the wheels. RCZ Vision is also Peugeot’s first model to demonstrate Brake-by-Wire electronic brake control.
The concept differs from the former coupe by much more than the absence of a petrol engine. Peugeot presents RCZ Vision as a showcase for solid-state batteries, a 1000V architecture, X-by-Wire technologies and a new generation of the i-Cockpit driver interface.
Peugeot has not announced a production date, a final production specification or a price. It is therefore too early to call RCZ Vision a confirmed return of the RCZ to showrooms: for now, the company has revived the idea of the coupe as a concept and shown technologies that could reach future Peugeot models.
