Mercedes-Benz has launched a limited Mercedes-AMG G 63 MANUFAKTUR Edition in Japan that costs 6 million yen more than the regular SUV while keeping exactly the same engine output. The special model is priced at 34.68 million yen, compared with 28.68 million yen for the current standard G 63 MP202602. The difference is 20.9%, and production is limited to 200 vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz Japan announced the start of sales on October 9. According to the manufacturer, the main draw is a combination of special colours and trim details that cannot be reproduced when ordering a regular G 63.

The MANUFAKTUR Dark Chrome package is being used on the G 63 for the first time. Dark chrome appears on the emblems, lettering, side trim strip, bumper elements, underbody protection and spare-wheel ring. The package also brings a special AMG grille, 22-inch forged wheels, black brake calipers and black running boards.

Five exclusive colours are offered. MANUFAKTUR Classic Grey and MANUFAKTUR Desert Sand have conventional glossy finishes, while MANUFAKTUR Monza Grey Magno, MANUFAKTUR Citrine Brown Magno and MANUFAKTUR Manganite Grey Magno are matte. Each matte colour costs an additional 400,000 yen, lifting the vehicle price to 35.08 million yen.

Mercedes has split the 200-car allocation unusually: 145 vehicles will be left-hand drive and only 55 right-hand drive. For each of the three matte colours, only five right-hand-drive examples are allocated.

Inside are black Nappa leather seats with diamond quilting, an AMG Performance steering wheel in carbon fibre and MICROCUT, and carbon trim. The G 63 Limited inscription appears on the exterior side strip and on the grab handle ahead of the front passenger. The cargo floor is finished in real cherry wood. A special Titleist LINKSLEGEND golf bag carrying G 63 and AMG logos is also included.

There is no extra performance. The 4.0-litre V8 biturbo still produces 585 hp and 850 Nm, while the integrated starter-generator can briefly add up to 20 hp and 200 Nm of electric assistance. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h remains 4.4 seconds.

Unlike the modified BRABUS 800 based on the G 63, where engine output rises to 800 hp, this Mercedes special edition keeps the factory 585 hp. The extra 6 million yen therefore pays for the design treatment, special equipment and limited production.

The MANUFAKTUR Edition is intended for the Japanese market. Mercedes has not announced this 200-unit configuration as a global series, so the Japanese price and steering-wheel allocation should be treated as market-specific.
