Deepal is bringing an instrument display back to a vehicle designed without one. The company has introduced an optional 4.39-inch OLED screen for the electric S05 crossover, mounted directly on the steering wheel. It shows essential driving information for motorists who find the head-up display inconvenient. The unusual accessory is already listed in Deepal’s official Chinese store.

The S05 was originally designed without a separate instrument cluster in front of the driver. In equipped versions, a 50-inch augmented-reality head-up display (AR-HUD) projects speed, navigation guidance and other information onto the windshield. A 15.6-inch central touchscreen with 2.5K resolution completes the setup.

Not all owners liked this approach. According to Chinese outlet CNMO, Deepal chairman Deng Chenghao said the OLED display was developed in response to customers accustomed to conventional gauges. The company has added another way to view driving data without abandoning the existing cabin concept. The accessory has appeared in the store within the Deepal app.

The accessory stands out because of its position: the compact screen is attached to the steering wheel rather than installed behind it like a conventional digital instrument cluster. It displays key driving data, but its price, complete list of functions and compatibility with earlier S05 vehicles have not been disclosed. Detailed installation requirements are also unknown.

The screen arrives shortly after an update to the Deepal S05 itself. In August 2026, the brand unveiled a revised electric version in China, with a rear motor rated at 200 kW (272 metric hp). Battery capacities of 56.12 and 68.82 kWh deliver claimed CLTC ranges of 520 and 620 km, respectively.

All revised electric S05 versions support fast charging. Under suitable conditions, Deepal claims the battery can be charged from 30 to 80% in 15 minutes. The stated ranges use China’s CLTC test cycle and should not be directly compared with European WLTP figures.

Higher trims offer lidar and two Horizon J6M computing chips for driver-assistance systems. This hardware supports assisted driving in cities, on highways and when parking. However, lidar and the more advanced assistance features are not fitted to every S05.

In China, the updated electric Deepal S05 was offered at promotional prices ranging from 115,900 to 144,900 yuan. Those figures are for the vehicle, not the new OLED display. Deepal has not publicly disclosed a separate price for the accessory.

Deepal has effectively given drivers a choice between its modern head-up display and a more familiar view of instruments. Questions remain about compatibility with different S05 versions, retrofitting older vehicles and availability outside China. Further announcements should clarify these points.
