2027 Kia Sorento PHEV price, trims and six-seat configuration
Kia drops the EX trim, leaving the six-seat X-Line SX-Prestige AWD at $53,890 before delivery. Here is what changed.
The 2027 Kia Sorento PHEV has lost its most affordable trim in the United States. Kia has dropped the EX and now offers only the X-Line SX-Prestige AWD, priced from $53,890. As a result, the plug-in hybrid’s minimum suggested price has jumped $5,600, or 11.6%, compared with the previous model year. That does not mean the remaining flagship trim became that much more expensive.
Kia America announced the changes on October 19, 2026. Previously, the Sorento PHEV came as an EX for $48,290 or an X-Line SX-Prestige for $53,490, excluding delivery. Only the higher trim remains, and its own price has risen by just $400. The higher entry price therefore reflects a narrower lineup rather than a steep increase for an equivalently equipped vehicle.
The decision also changes seating choices. The outgoing EX offered seven seats, including a three-person bench in the second row. The remaining X-Line SX-Prestige has two separate second-row captain’s chairs and seats six. That matters to buyers looking specifically for a seven-seat plug-in hybrid.
For the extra $400 over last year’s X-Line SX-Prestige, buyers now get a standard head-up display. Kia has also added X-Line embossing to the front seatbacks and wood-look trim on the dashboard and doors. Dark exterior accents, roof rails and black 19-inch wheels remain part of the X-Line appearance package.
An obligatory $1,495 destination charge brings the starting price of the Sorento PHEV X-Line SX-Prestige AWD to $55,385 before taxes, registration, options and any dealer fees. The actual transaction price can be higher.
The comparison with the regular 2027 Sorento Hybrid is revealing. In the equivalent X-Line SX-Prestige AWD trim, the non-plug-in hybrid costs $47,590. The PHEV therefore commands a $6,300 premium on suggested prices before destination charges. In return, owners can charge the traction battery externally and drive some journeys on electricity alone.
The plug-in Sorento combines a turbocharged 1.6-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor, a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The previous US specification was rated at 268 hp and used a traction battery of approximately 14 kWh. Official EPA electric-range figures for the 2027 model should be checked against its own certification rather than assumed from the earlier model year.
US buyers can still choose a gasoline-powered Sorento or a conventional hybrid that needs no external charging. But the PHEV range is now much narrower: there is no cheaper EX or seven-seat configuration. The principal change is a higher entry price for the plug-in hybrid, even though the sole remaining top trim has increased only modestly in price.
