Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa is pressing ahead with a broad restructuring of the company, and one of the first casualties is DS Automobiles. As reported by L’Argus, Stellantis has canceled development of the new DS No. 3 and No. 4 to refocus on more profitable, larger segments.

DS is not being shut down; instead, its strategy shifts toward the premium C+ and D classes. This helps avoid overlap with Citroën, which will handle the more straightforward C3, C4, and C5 Aircross. Down the road, the two brands could again share a dealer network, as they did in DS’s early days.

The axed DS No. 3 (project D31) was slated for 2028 as a hatchback related to the next Opel Corsa and Peugeot 208. Because it was still at the design stage, the financial impact should be minimal. The DS No. 4, penciled in for 2029 as a cousin to the Opel Astra and Peugeot 308, faces the same outcome.

DS will now pin its hopes on the larger No. 7, based on the STLA Medium platform, along with the flagship No. 8. The approach narrows the brand’s footprint but aims it squarely at a premium audience.

Given how DS’s compact models fell short of expectations, the pivot looks sensible: larger crossovers stand a better chance of restoring both prestige and profitability.
