Volkswagen Group Australia has announced a recall of 1,482 Tiguan SUVs from the 2024–2025 model years due to a malfunction in the semi-autonomous driving suite that could disable key safety functions.According to the notice, a software fault may cause the vehicle to misread gentle braking initiated by Emergency Assist or Travel Assist as if it were the driver’s input. As a result, emergency holding and highway assistance features can switch off on their own.Compounding the issue, the instrument cluster may fail to show a warning about the deactivation, increasing the risk of a crash if control is lost—especially when the driver doesn’t immediately react. For a system designed to support the driver, a silent shutdown is exactly the kind of edge case that erodes confidence. The recall covers vehicles designated as 2024 and 2025 model years, including some delivered later. Owners are advised to contact their nearest Volkswagen dealer for a complimentary software update. The company is already notifying customers and says the update will correct the error and fully restore the safety systems intended to help prevent hazardous situations.
