Tesla continues to refine its best-selling crossover. After the debut of the Model Y Standard, the lineup was reshuffled: the former Long Range variants now go by Premium RWD and Premium AWD. The headline change is an 84 kWh LG Energy Solution battery already fitted to the Premium AWD, which pushes its WLTP range to 629 km, edging past the previous rear-drive figure.

Next in line is a similar upgrade for the Model Y Premium RWD. According to Auto Plus, the new pack will let the rear-drive version reach roughly 690–700 km WLTP on 19-inch wheels. Even with 20-inch rims, it’s projected at about 661 km — a noticeable bump over today’s 622 km. That would make the RWD the range leader in the family once the update arrives.

Performance will mirror the AWD’s approach and stay put: 0–100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and a 201 km/h top speed. Charging specs are unchanged as well, with up to 266 km of range added in 15 minutes at a Supercharger. More distance without altering the character or routine — a pragmatic tweak rather than a reinvention.

Against its rivals, Tesla keeps a pricing advantage: with around 700 km on tap, the Model Y still undercuts the BMW iX3, which is priced at nearly 70,000 euros. Yet in Europe the brand is facing a slump — sales from January to September fell by almost 39%, while the EV market grew by more than 38%. The update strengthens the value play, but the figures underscore how fiercely the segment is moving.
