Kia K4 Hybrid 2026: power, transmission, body styles and production date

The European Kia K4 gains a 154 hp full hybrid with a 1.6 GDI engine and 6-speed DCT. Production starts on October 15, 2026, for Hatchback and Sportswagon.

Kia is closing the biggest technical gap in the European K4 range: alongside the 115 hp mild hybrid and 150 hp and 180 hp petrol versions, a full HEV with 154 hp will be added. The transmission changes as well: while the current MHEV is available with a 7-speed DCT, the new hybrid will get a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The powertrain is based on a naturally aspirated 1.6 GDI petrol engine with electric assistance. Production of the K4 Hybrid is due to start on October 15, 2026. Both European body styles will get the system: the five-door Hatchback and the roomier Sportswagon. In Spain, Concept, Drive, Tech and GT Line trims have been announced, and the K4 HEV is expected to become available from the end of 2026.

Kia’s official Spanish website already confirms that the full hybrid is coming soon. For now, the range includes the 115 hp 1.0 T-GDI MHEV and 1.6 T-GDI petrol engines with 150 hp and 180 hp.

An important rival is the Toyota Corolla Hybrid 140. In Spain, the Corolla Hatchback 140 in Active trim currently has a cash-purchase price of 32,300 euros. That makes the final positioning of the K4 especially dependent on its price, which Kia has not yet disclosed.

The new powertrain also expands Kia’s hybrid portfolio. This summer, the brand presented the second-generation Seltos, for which HEV and electric all-wheel drive e-AWD were announced. The next checkpoints for the K4 are the official price and homologated fuel-consumption and emissions figures: those will show whether the 154 hp HEV is genuinely more convincing than today’s MHEV, not just on paper.
