Lamborghini has confirmed that its new high-revving V8, the L411, will not only underpin the brand’s supercars in the coming years but is set to live through at least two product cycles. Paolo Raccetti, who oversees the Temerario product line, said the engine was engineered for production well past 2035, when the EU plans to enforce a ban on sales of new combustion cars. The message is clear: this powerplant is central to the roadmap, not a temporary bridge.

The key question is whether the V8 can be adapted to carbon‑neutral synthetic fuel. Germany, Italy and several other countries have already lobbied for a loophole for such engines, opening the door to keeping ICE in niche and sports models. It’s a narrow path, but one tailor‑made for brands like Lamborghini.

The L411 itself is a 4.0‑liter twin‑turbo V8 with a flat‑plane crank, developed specifically for the Huracan’s successor, the Temerario. At launch it can briefly spin to 10,200 rpm, with peak power arriving between 9,000 and 9,750 rpm. Within a hybrid setup, the engine produces 789 hp and 730 Nm, while the system’s total output reaches 907 hp thanks to three electric motors. Those figures suggest a focus on response and drama as much as on outright numbers—very much the character enthusiasts expect here.

Even so, the V8 isn’t a fit for the Urus: the MLB Evo architecture would demand changes that cut too deep. As a result, the SUV keeps Porsche’s EA825 V8. It reads as a pragmatic call, and likely the only one that avoids needless compromise.

Committing the L411 to two generations signals that Lamborghini has no plans to abandon internal combustion entirely, even as electrification accelerates—especially if e‑fuel offers a viable path to keep building the engines that define the brand. For a marque built on characterful powertrains, that continuity matters.
