Volkswagen has unveiled the ID.CROSS compact electric crossover concept on the eve of the Munich motor show, where SPEEDME.RU journalists will be on site. Scheduled for a summer 2026 launch, the newcomer aims to be one of the brand’s most attainable electric models.

Pricing is expected to land between €28,000 and €30,000, positioning the ID.CROSS against Chinese EVs and addressing buyers who want a 2025–2026 electric car at a sensible price. According to group CEO Oliver Blume, the company faces serious challenges: softening demand in Europe, a price war in China, and U.S. tariffs that have hit Audi and Porsche.

Volkswagen’s mass-market EV family is also set to include the ID.Polo at €25,000, along with the Cupra Raval and Skoda Epiq. Together, these models are intended to support the company’s plans to hold its ground amid the aggressive push from Chinese manufacturers and declining profits.

At the same time, the company is launching a large-scale reduction program—more than 35,000 jobs and cuts to production capacity in Germany.

The ID.CROSS feels like a timely response. If Volkswagen can keep the sticker in check and pair it with a solid driving range, the model stands a real chance of becoming a hit with buyers seeking a smart balance between affordability and technology.
