Ford’s forthcoming mid-size electric pickup is slated to be built in Louisville starting in 2027. It will be the first model engineered on the company’s new universal EV platform.In recent months, CEO Jim Farley has shared a few early details, indicating that a rear-wheel-drive version will be part of the lineup.In a subsequent interview with MotorTrend, Doug Field, Ford’s head of EVs, digital, and design, said the electric mid-size truck will also be sold with all-wheel drive and a dual-motor setup, while the base rear-drive model will use a single motor.Field added that multiple battery packs will be offered, allowing buyers to balance cost and driving range. It’s a practical approach for this class of vehicle, where flexibility often matters as much as the headline figures.Additionally, the new Ford EV pickup—already undergoing testing—will feature autonomous driving technology that, for now, appears only in far pricier models. If executed well, bringing that capability to a more attainable truck could become one of its defining strengths.
