Mercedes scales up its electric CLA range: the 200+ uses a 165 kW motor and 85 kWh battery to target 800+ km WLTP. New 250, 300 4Matic and 350 EQ models follow.

Mercedes is rapidly widening the electric CLA family. German sources indicate several new versions are imminent, including a model targeting a record-breaking range of more than 800 km. The idea is to mix and match motors and batteries to suit different use cases and satisfy the tax rules of individual markets.

Record-breaking range through a motor-and-big-battery combo

The headline is the proposed Mercedes CLA 200+. It is expected to retain the 165 kW (224 hp) rear motor from the CLA 200 EQ while stepping up to an 85 kWh NMC battery. Pairing a modest motor with a large pack is a pragmatic route to efficiency.

Today, the base CLA 200 EQ with a 58 kWh LFP pack is rated at 541 km WLTP. The CLA 250+ EQ, using the same 85 kWh battery but a more powerful 200 kW motor, achieves 792 km WLTP.

With lower output and a focus on efficiency, the CLA 200+ could surpass 800 km, making it the longest-legged Mercedes in its class.

Insiders also point to a more attainable CLA 250 EQ without the Plus: it keeps the 200 kW motor but switches to a 74 kWh battery. This version is quoted at around 695 km WLTP and shapes up as a compelling middle ground for buyers chasing range without going all-in on price.

Next up is the all-wheel-drive CLA 300 4Matic EQ with roughly 300 hp. It will slot below the range-topping CLA 350 4Matic EQ at 354 hp, which offers up to 771 km of range.

Why so many versions?

The electric-sedan field is expanding fast and competition is intensifying. Mercedes is leaning on its flexible MMA platform, which makes it easy to vary battery sizes and electric motors. Broadening the menu widens its reach—from buyers of base models to those who want maximum range or premium performance.

Equally crucial are combinations that qualify for favorable tax treatment in parts of the EU, because those rules directly influence the final price.

All told, Mercedes is shaping a full-fledged electric CLA range with options for almost every brief—from budget-minded to ultra long-range. The most anticipated addition, the CLA 200+, is aiming to clear the 800 km WLTP mark, which would place it among the market’s most efficient EVs.
