Spain is preparing to welcome a new major player in its automotive market as Geely enters with a clear strategy and two distinct models. The Chinese conglomerate, which competes with BYD and Volkswagen in its home market, plans to leverage the European expertise of Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus to establish itself in the family SUV segment.

The debut will center on the EX5, a fully electric crossover, and the Starray EM-i, a hybrid with claimed long-range capabilities. This dual approach addresses two of the most sought-after trends: affordable electrification and the versatility of hybrids, which is particularly important for Spanish buyers accustomed to long journeys and moderate fuel consumption.

In a market where MG and BYD have already demonstrated the viability of Chinese brands, Geely finds a favorable environment. Consumers are increasingly prioritizing a blend of price, features, and warranty—areas where the brand has notable strengths. However, success will hinge on three key factors: pricing, service network development, and financing terms.

The main question is how aggressively Geely will enter a segment where competition intensifies monthly. Exact prices, trim levels, and delivery timelines have yet to be announced, but the initial move is clearly aimed at the mass market rather than a niche audience.

If the company can ensure accessibility and robust support, its entry could significantly shift the balance in Spain's automotive industry, accelerating the transition to electrified models.
