Kia America has announced a major recall of 2025 model year Telluride crossovers. According to SPEEDME, the campaign affects approximately 85,448 vehicles equipped with power-adjustable front seats.

The issue stems from potential insufficient rigidity in the front seat backrest frame. The company reports that due to a manufacturing deviation in the recliner mechanism, the backrest may not properly secure passengers in certain rear-end collisions, increasing the risk of injury.

An investigation began in August 2025 when Kia Georgia's plant received a report of driver's seat backrest play. Over several months, the company collected warranty parts for analysis. Initial tests showed compliance with federal FMVSS standards, but additional crash tests revealed the seats did not meet Kia's internal standards.

Data analysis from February 2025 to February 2026 identified 76 instances of backrest play in specific VINs. Importantly, Kia has not recorded any accidents, injuries, or fatalities related to this defect.

As part of the recall, dealers are prohibited from delivering new vehicles to customers until the issue is resolved. The final fix involves replacing the front seat backrest frame where necessary. Owners will be notified in April 2026, after which the service campaign will begin.

This recall ranks among the largest for the current model year Telluride. It demonstrates that even interior passive safety components undergo scrutiny not just to meet regulatory requirements, but also to satisfy the manufacturer's own rigorous standards.
