Audi has officially confirmed the return of the A2 model, marking its comeback after more than 20 years. The new vehicle will be a compact electric crossover and is set to hit the market in 2026.

Positioned at the entry level of the brand's lineup, the model will effectively replace the outgoing A1 and Q2. Audi is focusing on affordability, with the starting price expected to be under £30,000, making the A2 the most budget-friendly electric car in the Audi range.

Built on Volkswagen's MEB platform, the new A2 will share characteristics with the Volkswagen ID.3. However, its design will feature crossover elements and a monovolume body style, echoing the original A2 from the late 1990s.

The company emphasizes that the new model will retain the key concept of its predecessor: maximum efficiency. The original A2 was known for its lightweight aluminum construction and good aerodynamics, and the new generation also prioritizes reducing air resistance.

Production will be based in Ingolstadt, with the official debut expected in the autumn.

The return of the A2 reflects Audi's strategy to expand its affordable electric vehicle segment, where competition with mass-market models is intensifying.
