Skoda is preparing a significant update for its flagship Kodiaq RS crossover. Based on recent spy photos and insider information, the model will receive a new engine with over 300 horsepower. This move aims to bring it closer to more powerful competitors in the segment.

New Engine and Power Boost

The current Kodiaq RS uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 265 horsepower. However, this is no longer sufficient against rivals like the Volkswagen Tiguan R. That's why Skoda is developing an upgraded powertrain, which preliminary data suggests will be electrified and feature a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.

This engine is expected to be part of the Volkswagen Group's new lineup and will also be used in other sporty models. The result will be power exceeding 300 horsepower, significantly improving performance and making the crossover more competitive in the fast SUV segment.

Testing and Prototype Features

Spy prototypes of the Kodiaq RS are already undergoing testing, including at the Nürburgring. The test vehicles show clear signs of the top-tier version: large 20-inch wheels, red brake calipers, and sporty design elements that emphasize the model's status.

Additional confirmation of electrification comes from special markers on the body, which are used to denote hybrid vehicles during testing. Meanwhile, the engine sound indicates a traditional gasoline motor is retained, suggesting a compromise between classic dynamics and modern technology.

Positioning and Launch Timeline

The updated Kodiaq RS could debut as early as mid-2027. Skoda is considering several scenarios for the lineup's development. One option is a complete replacement of the current version with a new, more powerful modification. Another is the parallel existence of two variants with different performance levels.

Such a move would help the brand strengthen its position in the sporty crossover segment and keep pace with more powerful Volkswagen models. Clearly, Skoda is betting on a balance of practicality and dynamics, turning the Kodiaq RS into a versatile vehicle that can compete not just on price, but also on specifications.
