General Motors is set to introduce a new configuration of the Chevrolet Silverado Duramax 1500 with an extended driving range for the 2027 model year, according to reports.

Sources familiar with the matter indicate that the 2027 Silverado Duramax will offer configurations capable of traveling up to 1,600 km on a single tank of fuel. This impressive range will be available on trucks equipped with the Duramax turbo-diesel engine, known in current models as the 3.0-liter I6 LZ0. The extended range will be made possible by an optional larger fuel tank and some minor improvements in fuel efficiency.

For context, the current 2026 Silverado Duramax 1500 achieves 8.4 liters per 100 km on the highway with the base LZ0 Duramax engine. This translates to a maximum range of approximately 965 km for rear-wheel-drive diesel models and 925 km for all-wheel-drive diesel models.

In practice, this means the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado could increase its maximum range by 635 km. Overall, the picture is straightforward: this represents a significant improvement over the current model.
