Kia is developing a new three-row crossover under the codename MQ4i, which will slot above the Seltos and become the flagship of the brand's mainstream lineup. Aimed at the family segment, the model is expected to debut around 2027.

Hybrid Powertrain and New Platform

The newcomer will be based on the global Kia Sorento but will feature an adapted powertrain. It's anticipated to use a 1.5-liter gasoline engine paired with an electric motor and a small battery. This setup should help reduce fuel consumption and keep pricing competitive. Transmission options under consideration include e-CVT or a robotic gearbox, with all-wheel drive potentially available in higher-end versions.

Focus on Technology and Comfort

In terms of features, the model will approach premium segment standards. It's expected to offer Level 2 driver-assistance systems, a digital instrument cluster, multimedia with over-the-air updates, and a panoramic sunroof. Options may also include ventilated seats, second-row captain's chairs, and advanced safety systems.

Competition and Positioning

The new SUV will compete with models like the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and Hyundai Alcazar, as well as hybrid versions from Toyota and Maruti. Ultimately, Kia is betting on a blend of practicality, technology, and hybrid efficiency, which could prove to be a key success factor in the family crossover segment.
