Mercedes-Benz has officially begun building pre-series examples of the new VLE MPV at its Vitoria plant. The model is the brand’s first to ride on the new VAN.EA platform, developed specifically for electric vans and multi-purpose vehicles. Series production is scheduled for 2026, and the facility is set to assemble future VLS and Vito models as well.

The strategy remains electric-first: the VLE will launch exclusively as a battery-electric vehicle, with combustion versions to follow later. To prepare for the rollout, the company modernized the site with new body-in-white and paint shops and an upgraded final assembly area. The VLE will be built on the same line as today’s Vito and V-Class—an approach that should let Mercedes flex output as demand builds.

According to the company, the new VLE will combine the comfort of an executive sedan with family-minded practicality. The first teaser shows a tri-star light signature and a prominent decorative grille, cues that point to an upscale emphasis rather than a purely utilitarian brief.

Strategically, the VLE is more than a new model: it is the launch pad for a new generation of electric MPVs. Experts expect it to strengthen Mercedes’ position among premium family vehicles and compete with the best offerings of 2025–2026. If the execution matches the intent, the VLE has every chance to set the tone for the segment.
