Volkswagen has begun road testing the new T-Roc R at the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit. The prototype is undergoing trials on one of the most challenging tracks, signaling preparations for a sportier version of the crossover.

The second-generation base T-Roc has already established itself as a well-handling vehicle. The R variant is expected to feature all-wheel drive and a more powerful engine. Under the hood, it will likely house a 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged engine producing over 300 horsepower, paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission.

Test models show camouflage concealing details of the front bumper and air intakes. The design will probably resemble the R-Line version of the standard T-Roc.

Beyond increased power, chassis upgrades are anticipated. These include larger ventilated brakes, wheels up to 20 inches, and electronic control systems, possibly including torque vectoring to enhance cornering behavior.

Testing on the over 20-kilometer Nordschleife allows the vehicle to be evaluated in various conditions—from high-speed sections to complex turns and elevation changes. Such models strengthen the 2026 sports car segment, where manufacturers blend crossover characteristics with the dynamics of performance versions. The launch timing and market availability of the T-Roc R have not yet been confirmed.
