Smart #6 EHD made its debut at the Beijing Auto Show as the brand’s new hybrid model, offering a driving range of more than 1,000 km and a starting pre-order price of 18.99 million yuan (2.7 million dollars). The newcomer marks an important step in the evolution of the smart lineup, which has now fully moved beyond the format of compact city cars.

Smart #6 EHD follows the current design language of modern electrified models: a closed-off front end, full-width LED lighting and clean aerodynamic surfaces. The car also features a roof-mounted lidar unit, pointing to expanded driver-assistance capabilities and future support for advanced automated driving functions.

The technical package is built around the EHD system, described as a super hybrid, combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine rated at 120 kW with an electric motor. This setup delivers strong efficiency and a substantial total range of more than 1,000 km. That makes the model a practical alternative to EVs in the Chinese car segment, where driving range remains one of the central concerns.

In terms of size, the Smart #6 EHD sits in the midsize class, with an overall length of nearly 4.9 metres and a wheelbase of 2,926 mm. Its liftback shape, sloping roofline and the option of an active spoiler underline a sportier character. Inside, the cabin features a digital layout with dual screens, a premium audio system with more than 2,000 watts of output, and carefully developed seats with a focus on comfort.

On the market, the Smart #6 EHD will compete with models such as the Tesla Model Y, BYD Song L and Zeekr 001. Its key distinction, however, is the hybrid powertrain, which combines the advantages of an electric vehicle with those of a conventional combustion engine.

In the end, the Smart #6 EHD reflects a new brand strategy: moving away from niche urban cars and toward versatile, technology-led crossovers.
