The recall covers the airbox backplate, where a blocked breather port can cause crankcase pressure to build up. NHTSA has not yet disclosed the affected models.

Harley-Davidson has issued a recall covering 88,039 motorcycles in the United States. According to a notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue is centred on the airbox backplate.

The defect involves the breather port, which routes crankcase ventilation. If it becomes blocked, pressure inside the crankcase can rise. That is not a state any engine wants to be in: proper ventilation keeps the powertrain running as designed and prevents undue stress on seals and surrounding components.

The regulator has yet to disclose which specific models are affected, when owners will be notified, or how dealers will carry out the repair.

Harley-Davidson owners in the US should check their VIN once the campaign appears in the NHTSA database or wait for official notification from the manufacturer.
