FOTON 4 PHEV: 476 hp, 32.85 kWh battery and all-wheel drive

The diesel FOTON 4 makes 160 hp, while the new plug-in hybrid raises system output to 476 hp. The body-on-frame PHEV pickup shown at IAA Transportation in Hanover combines a 2.0-liter turbo engine, electric drive and a 32.85 kWh battery. German importer IndiMO confirms 350 kW of system output, all-wheel drive, DC fast charging and a V2L function for powering external electrical equipment.

FOTON has not yet disclosed the electric-only range or the maximum charging power of the European version. Pricing is also still unknown. For reference, the 160-hp diesel FOTON 4 is already sold in Germany from €39,995, while the Ultra version costs €42,995.

In China, FOTON has already shown the 350-kW Mars 7 and Mars 9 hybrids. In Russia, the TUNLAND V9 recently gained a 245-hp petrol version. Europe is now getting its own high-output PHEV offering.

There is, however, an important naming detail. FOTON’s global IAA report lists a TUNLAND V9 PHEV among the exhibits, while the German importer uses the name FOTON 4 Plug-in-Hybrid. Earlier this year, the Russian distributor described the TUNLAND V9 PHEV as the most likely candidate for Russia and said it intended to begin certification.

The European premiere therefore makes the model more relevant to the Russian market, but the 476-hp figure, battery specification and future price of the European vehicle should not automatically be applied to a Russian-market V9. The next verifiable details will be the European price list, the electric-only range and certification documents for the Russian version.
