Ford surprises: next-generation cars will save themselves

Ford Motor Company has filed a patent application for a moving-object detection system that could be used in the brand’s future vehicles.

In this case Ford proposes a system capable of detecting moving objects around a stationary vehicle by means of sensors. The system would be able to assess the threat level posed by the object on its own, and if it decides that the object is moving toward a collision with the car, it would move the vehicle automatically.

The concept is fairly simple in essence, but potentially useful, given how often items such as stray shopping carts at the mall, or other vehicles, end up colliding with parked cars.

Whether this idea will become reality remains unclear, but given the rise of autonomous technologies in recent years, it’s obvious that Ford is exploring every possible application for such systems.
