General Motors has issued a recall for the Chevrolet Equinox EV. These vehicles may not meet the minimum exterior-noise requirements for hybrid and electric models in the United States and Canada. In some cars, the software may be misconfigured, causing the exterior alert sound to be too quiet when the vehicle is moving from 0 to 10 km/h. That creates a risk for pedestrians who might not hear a car creeping at low speed, for example in a parking lot. The appeal of near-silent running quickly fades when it compromises awareness around the vehicle.About 23,700 Chevrolet Equinox EVs are included in the campaign. All affected vehicles were produced from August 8, 2023 through August 28, 2024, inclusive. The company plans to begin notifying owners on November 10 this year.
