Explorer 2027 lights up: Ford's blue oval now glows on the nose

Ford is preparing several new options for the 2027 model year Explorer that should make the crossover stand out more visually and feel better equipped. One of those details is an illuminated Ford badge on the front of the vehicle.

The new glowing emblem replaces the standard blue oval up front. The option will be available on every 2027 Explorer trim: Active, ST-Line, Tremor, ST and Platinum. It isn’t a factory-installed item, though — it’s a dealer-installed option, with the badge shipped separately and fitted after the vehicle is ordered.

Pricing for the Explorer hasn’t been disclosed yet. For reference, Ford already offers a similar option on the 2026 model year F-150 and Super Duty pickups, where the illuminated logo costs $309. But that figure can’t be carried over to the Explorer directly — the final price for the crossover hasn’t been published.

Another notable change is the return of the Panoramic Vista Roof. For the 2026 model year it was temporarily replaced by a fixed glass panel, but for the 2027 Explorer the previous version with a power shade becomes available again. The Tremor also picks up the Sun and Sound Package, which bundles the panoramic roof, a 14-speaker B&O audio system rated at 980 watts and front multi-contour seats with Active Motion.

Other updates include the Ford Security Package, the blacked-out sporty ST Sinister Package and the Ultimate Package paired with the 3.0-liter engine. Some versions will offer a Slick Roof Conversion: this option deletes the side roof rails for a cleaner profile. The Platinum trim once again becomes available with the 3.0-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6.
