Hummer EV finally gets a factory cure for its sun-baked glass roof

GMC has expanded the accessory catalog for the all-electric Hummer EV — and addressed something owners have been asking about for a while. The transparent Infinity Roof is one of the SUV’s most striking but also most controversial features, and now it can be tinted. For the 2026 model year Hummer EV, GMC is offering the Exterior Sunshade Decal Kit, a dealer-installed accessory that goes directly onto the removable glass Sky Panels.

According to the official GMC catalog, the kit includes four sunshade decals and a squeegee for application. The accessory fits the Hummer EV Pickup and Hummer EV SUV for the 2026 model year in 2X and 3X trims, carries GM part number 85039980, and has a suggested price of $775. GMC recommends professional installation at an authorized dealer, and the kit requires the Infinity Roof option to be ordered on the vehicle.

The idea is simple: cut the sun’s impact on the cabin without giving up the transparent roof concept. According to GMC, the semi-transparent film with its graphic pattern reduces glare and heat, protects the interior from UV rays, and still preserves the open view of the sky. The material is described as weather-resistant and designed for year-round use on the glass panels.

This isn’t a technical upgrade for the Hummer EV but rather a pure comfort accessory. The logic for owners is clear, though: a large glass roof looks great in photos and creates an open-cabin effect, but in summer it turns into a source of heat and glare. At $775, a factory solution looks cleaner than experimenting with random aftermarket tints or third-party films.
