Fiat Tipo/Egea production ends in 2026: the final car, total built and why it stopped

The Fiat Tipo has finally left the assembly line: the last example of the model, known in Turkey as the Egea, rolled off the Tofaş plant in Bursa. For Europe it was a practical, budget Fiat; for Turkey it was almost a national car — 1,417,047 units built over 11 years, and from 2016 to 2025 the Egea was the country’s best-selling car ten times.

The project started in 2015 with the sedan body, then the range grew to include a hatchback, an estate and the Cross version. The model was exported to more than 40 countries, most often under the Fiat Tipo name. According to Fiat, the four-door Egea Sedan was the most popular on the Turkish market — 565,097 cars sold. The Egea Cross accounted for 150,869 units, hatchbacks and estates for 29,678.

The last car down the line was an Egea Sedan Lounge in Dinamik Mavi. It came with the 1.6 MJet diesel producing 130 hp and a DCT automated gearbox. Fittingly, the final example was not a cross-hatch or a rare variant but the sedan itself — the body that made the model a mass-market hit in Turkey and a sensible pick for markets driven by rational demand.

The Tipo was never a segment icon, but it played in the same space as other simple family cars with no premium ambitions. On the used market its strengths are straightforward, well-understood mechanicals, the diesel versions, generous space and a reasonable price. Its weak points: modest resale liquidity, a limited supply of body panels and a heavy dependence on the condition of the specific car.

The Tipo’s departure shows how quickly the class of affordable European passenger cars is vanishing. Crossovers, hybrids and Chinese newcomers are taking their place, but they don’t always give the buyer the same simple formula: a lot of car for sensible money.
