Chery is speeding up its European expansion not with a single model but with a whole scattering of brands and indices. Lepas is only just entering the market with the L8 crossover, but by the end of 2027 the brand’s line-up should grow to five models — from the compact L2 to the flagship L9.

The whole point of Lepas is to slot into a niche above the mainstream Omoda and Jaecoo, closer to a “semi-premium” segment that in Europe could overlap with Mazda, Volkswagen and the pricier versions of Korean SUVs. The engineering, though, isn’t developed in isolation: as with Omoda, Jaecoo and Ebro, it rests on Chery and the Tiggo family.
