Freelander 8 2026: Price, Release Date and Specs So Far

The Freelander 8 has reached Chinese dealerships ahead of its official price announcement and delivery start. Some dealers received fixed demonstration units, while other vehicles set off on a tour covering 30 cities and 17 provinces.

The first leg of the route runs from July 12 to August 1, but placing an order or learning a delivery date is not yet possible. The familiar badge on the body does not mark the return of the Land Rover Freelander model. JLR licensed the name to the Chery Jaguar Land Rover joint venture for a separate lineup of electrified vehicles built on Chery’s architecture.

The Freelander 8 is the new brand’s first large SUV. The six-seat vehicle reaches 5118 mm in length, or 5185 mm with certain body elements. Width comes to 2050 mm, and the wheelbase is 3040 mm. Chery Jaguar Land Rover claims a towing capacity of up to 2000 kg and dual-chamber air suspension. The all-wheel-drive system gets three locks: a front mechanical lock, a rear electronic lock, and a virtual center lock.

The powertrain is a series-hybrid EREV setup. A 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine produces 115 kW, or about 156 hp, and works purely as a generator. A 60.331 kWh CATL battery delivers 221 km of electric range on the WLTC cycle. The automaker also cites an 800-volt system, charging at up to 6C, and peak power of 350 kW.

A rough calculation based on the battery’s full capacity works out to about 27 kWh per 100 km. That is not an official consumption figure — the battery’s usable capacity has not been disclosed — but it hints at the cost of a large body, six-seat cabin, and off-road hardware. The vehicle’s appearance in showrooms lets buyers check out the seating position, third row, and the 1.2-meter-wide panoramic screen.

A real comparison with other Chinese EREVs is still missing four things: pricing, the trim lineup, warranty terms, and an exact delivery schedule. Until those are announced, the current campaign remains a preview rather than the start of sales.
