Lexus TZ 2027: price, release date and range explained

Lexus has unveiled its first three-row electric crossover. The TZ stretches 5.1 meters, seats six people and weighs around 2.63 tonnes. Sales in Japan are planned for winter 2026, though pricing and final trim lineup have not yet been announced.

The powertrain pairs two electric motors with all-wheel drive. Combined output reaches 300 kW, or 407.8 hp, with a 0-100 km/h time of 5.4 seconds.

Two battery options are offered depending on the market: 76.96 and 95.82 kWh. The long-range version is rated at up to 530 km on the European WLTP cycle, 620 km on Japan's WLTC, or 300 miles under the US EPA standard. These figures aren't directly comparable, since they come from different test methods and remain preliminary. Charging from 10 to 80% at a 150 kW station should take about 35 minutes at optimal battery temperature.

The cabin features individual second-row seats, while the third row is sized for two adults. Even with the rear seats up, the trunk holds 290 liters, expanding to 2,017 liters with both rows folded. The front seats and second row get ventilation, and heating is available across all six seats.

One of the standout features is the Responsive Hidden Switches. Their markings stay hidden in the trim until a hand approaches, at which point illuminated icons appear. Lexus still kept physical button travel so drivers feel a tactile click. A large panoramic roof spans all three rows, though the automaker's world-record claim refers to the length and area of the sliding shade among production cars at the time of development.

The TZ also gets rear-wheel steering and a virtual eight-speed transmission. It alters throttle response, simulates gear shifts, and can pair them with the sound of a V10 engine. Availability of these features will depend on market and trim.
