Ferrari F80 Aperta 2027: spy shots, expected roof design and price

Ferrari has taken a camouflaged F80 prototype with a modified roof out on public roads. Spy photos of the heavily disguised car were shot near the factory in Maranello: the main changes are concentrated above the cabin, hinting at an open-top variant in development. There has been no official announcement of a Ferrari F80 Aperta yet. Earlier, Ferrari trademark filings already hinted at F80 Targa and Roadster versions.

Based on the design, this looks like a manually removable panel rather than a heavy automatic mechanism. The LaFerrari Aperta used a similar solution: it offered an easily removable carbon-fiber top that owners could install without professional help. Ferrari has not yet revealed the type or material of the new F80's roof.

The underlying hardware will most likely carry over from the coupe. The F80's hybrid powertrain produces 1,200 hp, accelerates the car to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.15 seconds and lets it reach 350 km/h (217 mph). Ferrari will build only 799 units of the closed version, with production running through 2027.

An open-top car will require a stiffer body and reworked aerodynamics. For the LaFerrari Aperta, engineers matched the coupe's rigidity and drag coefficient despite the lack of a fixed roof. That version turned out to be far rarer than the original: Ferrari built 210 open cars versus 499 production coupes. Experts expect an F80 Aperta debut in 2027, when Ferrari marks its 80th anniversary. That looks like a logical scenario, but it remains a forecast — the company has confirmed neither a date, nor a production run, nor a price.

The closed F80 was priced at around $3.7 million before options, so the open variant will almost certainly cost more — if the project actually reaches production.
