Chevrolet S10 2028: release date, new platform and hybrid version

Chevrolet just started selling the 2027 S10 with the new Trail Boss trim, but the current pickup has only about two more years before a full generation change. According to American media, the next S10 will debut in Brazil in 2028, arriving with a completely new body and noticeably different proportions.

The basis will be an updated version of the 31XX-2 architecture from the American Chevrolet Colorado, which already received its own 2027-2028 model year update. The new construction will make the pickup larger, roomier and visually closer to the Silverado. The platform will also be adapted for increased payload capacity, a single-cab configuration and electrified powertrains.

A hybrid S10 has not been confirmed yet. General Motors and Hyundai have officially announced only a joint development of a midsize pickup for Central and South America with the option of an internal combustion or hybrid system. GM is responsible for the platform, while both brands will create their own bodies and interiors.

The current S10 comes with a 2.8-liter turbodiesel producing 207 hp and starts at 265,690 reais in Brazil, or roughly $52,300. The off-road Trail Boss is priced at 341,290 reais — about $67,200. Its beefed-up suspension and equipment were reported on earlier.

Buyers of the current S10 get a well-known diesel engine, a five-year warranty and an already established dealer network. The wait until 2028 comes with the promise of a roomier body and a possible hybrid, though its specs and price remain unknown.
