Ford F-150 Raptor R in Italy: price, specs and superbollo rules

The Ford F-150 Raptor R was tested on Italian roads, where its 5.91-meter body turned out to be just as striking as its supercharged V8. Importers are asking upwards of €170,000 excluding VAT: after Italy's 22% is added, that comes to at least €207,400.

In the official US specification, the 5.2-liter engine produces 720 hp and 640 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic and four-wheel drive with a low-range transfer case. In testing, the nearly 2.7-tonne pickup hit 100 km/h in about four seconds.

Its main purpose, though, is high-speed off-roading: 37-inch tires, a five-link rear suspension and adaptive Fox dampers come standard. Suspension travel reaches roughly 330 mm at the front and 358 mm at the rear. On regular roads, the truck's sheer size is the biggest limitation. Width without mirrors is about 2.21 meters, height exceeds two meters, and the wheelbase is close to 3.7 meters.

Even a European parking space feels tighter for the Raptor R than for most full-size SUVs. Fuel consumption matches the scale: the US estimate for the model is about 12 mpg, or roughly 19.6 L/100 km. The claim that it avoids Italy's superbollo tax needs a caveat.

The extra tax applies to powerful passenger cars, but not to vehicles genuinely registered as N1-category commercial trucks (autocarro). That classification depends on a specific vehicle's paperwork and registration process, so it can't be assumed that every Raptor R is automatically exempt.

The Raptor R can be fast, comfortable and capable off-road all at once. In Italy, though, a buyer has to weigh more than just price and fuel consumption: import warranty, registration category and everyday parking may end up mattering more than all 730 horses.
