Kia Sorento India: booking opens, price and launch date still unknown

Kia has officially opened bookings for the Sorento in India, months after unofficial dealer reservations began. Price and specs are still unannounced.

Kia officially started accepting orders for the Sorento in India on August 3. The new status matters more than the booking form itself: in July, dealers were taking requests unofficially, and now the model has entered a confirmed launch programme. Price, trim lineup and delivery start date have not been announced yet.

Customers can book online on the Kia India website or through their nearest dealer, Autocar India reports. A booking does not lock in the final price of the car. Kia’s online sales terms state that the price applicable on the invoice date will apply, while confirmation and delivery timing depend on the chosen dealer and vehicle availability.

The Sorento will become one of Kia’s key hybrids for India. The company has officially included the Sorento HEV in a plan to expand its local lineup to ten models and eight electrified vehicles by 2030. The same list includes the Syros EV and the Carnival HEV.

Powertrain details for the India-spec car have not been revealed yet. For reference, the European Sorento Hybrid uses a 1.6-litre turbo engine paired with an electric motor and a six-speed automatic. Combined output is about 238 hp, torque is 380 Nm, and the claimed fuel consumption for the all-wheel-drive version reaches 6.6 l/100 km. These figures cannot be automatically carried over to the India-spec car.

The global Sorento measures 4,815 mm in length with a 2,815 mm wheelbase. Dealer sources previously told Autocar India that five-, six- and seven-seat variants, local assembly and a hybrid engine were possible. The official specification should show which of these actually make it into the production lineup.

The Sorento’s launch continues Kia’s hybrid expansion, which is reflected in the updated Kia Niro with its 141 hp powertrain. India is also getting new SUVs from other brands at the same time — among them the Nissan Tekton, positioned to compete with the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The next milestone will be the price list. Until then, official booking confirms the Sorento’s arrival in India, but it still doesn’t allow a comparison of its final price and equipment against the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron and Toyota Fortuner.
