Toyota GR86 2026 update: prices, order date and what has changed

Toyota has updated the rear-wheel-drive GR86 coupe for the Japanese market. The revision was announced on August 6, orders open on August 28, 2026, and prices are unchanged: from 2,936,000 yen for the entry-level RC with the manual gearbox to 3,616,000 yen for the RZ with the automatic.

The full price list runs as follows: the RC with the manual costs 2,936,000 yen, the SZ with the manual 3,195,000 yen, the SZ with the automatic 3,293,000 yen, the RZ with the manual 3,518,000 yen and the RZ with the automatic 3,616,000 yen. All figures include tax.

Power is unchanged. The GR86 keeps its 2.4-litre flat-four with 235 hp and 250 Nm. Buyers still choose between a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic, and drive stays with the rear wheels.

Steering precision and the way the manual shifts

The main engineering work went into how the car answers the driver. Toyota reworked the throttle response so that it is easier to meter drive on corner exit, on wet surfaces, on snow and on other low-grip roads. The new electric power steering settings draw, Toyota says, on the GR86’s Super Taikyu racing experience — they should cut wandering in fast corners and over bumps and help hold the chosen line more precisely.

On manual cars the chamfer of the shift interlock has been increased by roughly 0.5 mm. That should make the fifth-to-fourth downshift easier before turn-in. It is a small revision, but it goes straight to the way the GR86 is used as a sports car — a similar set of changes Toyota also announced for the 2027 model year GR86.

EyeSight moves to three cameras

The most visible change is to EyeSight, standard across the whole GR86 range. An ultra-wide-angle mono camera has been added to the wide-angle stereo camera, so the system should watch a broader area ahead of the car. EyeSight remains a driver assistance package and does not relieve the driver of responsibility for the vehicle.

Solid Gray returns and the RZ cabin gets new switches

Toyota has also brought back Solid Gray, a colour offered for about six months in 2017 on the previous Toyota 86. In the RZ trim the black switches now reflect less light and feel better to the touch, while the optional black-and-red interior carries stronger red accents around the driver’s seat — a nod to the late-run Toyota 86.

The cup car and the sales tally

Since sales began in 2021 Toyota has shipped around 110,000 GR86s, which makes it the best seller among the cars built specifically for the GR range. The racing Cup Car Basic used in the GR86/BRZ one-make series also gains an automatic version, with production due to start in December 2026.

The update has not made the GR86 faster, but it touches three practical areas at once: steering precision, the way the manual gearbox works and the field of view of the electronic assistants. For a sports model, an unchanged price may count as much as the return of a familiar colour.
