Škoda Peaq production start: Mladá Boleslav line, prices, range and orders

Škoda has started series production of the Peaq at its main plant in Mladá Boleslav. By the end of July the carmaker had taken almost 8,500 orders — the new electric flagship reached the commercial stage a few weeks after its premiere. The cars are built on the same line as the electric Enyaq and Elroq and as the combustion-engined Octavia Combi.

For the largest model Škoda has built since joining the Volkswagen Group, the plant needed bigger transport skids, which also improve ergonomics and workplace safety, a new manipulator for fitting the third row and targeted upgrades in the press shop, the body shop and the paint shop. The flexible line lets the share of the four models move with demand. In the first half of the year almost 23% of the output of the Czech plants was already fully electric.

On its home market the Peaq 60 starts at 1,150,000 Czech crowns including VAT. The rear-wheel-drive Peaq 90 is listed from 1,325,000 crowns. Prices differ across European markets because of taxes and equipment levels.

The entry version gets a battery with a gross capacity of 63 kWh, rear-wheel drive and a 204 hp motor. Range exceeds 450 km and the sprint to 100 km/h takes 8.4 seconds. With the 91 kWh pack the Peaq 90 delivers 286 hp and covers more than 640 km, while the all-wheel-drive Peaq 90x with 299 hp goes beyond 610 km. Charging from 10 to 80% takes 27 to 28 minutes.

At 4,870 mm long and with a wheelbase of almost three metres, the Peaq offers five or seven seats. The maximum braked towing weight reaches 2,000 kg on the 90x. The rear drum brakes are not a saving on safety: in B mode, where the car slows on a single pedal, recuperation handles more than 95% of all braking, according to the manufacturer.

The manufacturer describes bidirectional charging in two scenarios. V2L powers external devices from the traction battery, while V2H feeds energy to a building through a compatible Ambibox DC Wallbox. Sending power back to the public grid via V2G does not appear in the international press kit, although the brand’s Czech release does name that mode.

Our newsroom went through the European prices, the equipment and the delivery dates of the Peaq at the market launch. Even before the premiere we measured the newcomer against the Kodiaq and the rest of the range.

The next test will not be the configurator sheet but the speed of the ramp-up and the first deliveries to customers. Almost 8,500 orders give Škoda a visible head start, yet real demand will only be clear once the initial delivery wave is over.
