2027 Toyota Crown: Price, THS 5 Hybrid Specs and What Changed

Toyota has updated the American Crown for the 2027 model year, and the biggest change isn’t the new bumper. The XLE, Limited and Nightshade trims get the THS 5 hybrid system, but output stays at 236 hp and the claimed fuel economy actually got slightly worse.

The base Crown starts at $41,640 before destination. The new hybrid still pairs a 2.5-liter gas engine with electric motors and a CVT, and all-wheel drive remains standard. Toyota rates the combined EPA cycle at about 40 mpg. The XLE, Limited and Nightshade also get paddle shifters for the first time. The exterior changes are more noticeable at the rear.

Toyota reshaped the rear bumper, and on the two-tone Crown Platinum the roof now stays black while the trunk lid is painted the body color. A new black shade called Inked joins the lineup, along with satin badges, and the Platinum gets red brake calipers. Inside, the Limited and Platinum trims get a new Saddle Tan leather option.

The range-topping Platinum is technically almost unchanged. Its Hybrid MAX pairs a 2.4-liter turbo engine with electrification for 340 hp and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm). Instead of a CVT, it uses a six-speed automatic, and fuel economy is noticeably lower — around 30 mpg.

Toyota’s prices don’t include the mandatory $1,295 destination charge. The XLE starts at $41,640, the Nightshade at $48,965, the Limited at $49,720, and the Platinum at $55,190. The Limited looks the most curious: on paper it jumped $3,770. But the reason is that the previous Advanced Technology package is now standard equipment.

Comparing similarly equipped cars, the real increase is just $200. So the Crown update turned out unusual: calmer styling, richer standard equipment, a newer hybrid system — and a price bump that’s minimal on most trims. Just don’t expect THS 5 to bring extra fuel savings yet.
