Toyota unexpectedly pulled the wraps off a next-generation Corolla concept, the biggest surprise in the run-up to the Japan Mobility Show 2025. Instead of the expected supercar, the company presented an electric sedan that signals the brand’s next direction—a choice that speaks more to strategy than spectacle.

In the teaser footage, the COROLLA script on the tail and a charging port on the fender make its EV status plain. The closed-off front and elongated profile underscore that this is a clean-sheet model on an electric platform. At the same time, Toyota tends to avoid going all-in on EVs; the production Corolla will likely be offered in both hybrid and battery-electric forms, as with the new Lexus ES.

The design leans on sharp surfacing and aero-friendly shapes. Up front, C-shaped headlamps are linked by a horizontal light strip, while the rear is finished with pixel-style lamps spanning the full width. The wheels are pushed to the corners, increasing cabin space, and the steeply raked windshield lends the body a sense of motion.

The new Corolla is set to become a cornerstone of Toyota’s refreshed design language, which the company plans to carry across its upcoming models.
